VEGETATION

Every year, after the harvest, Marco carries out an analysis of the soil to detect what deficiencies it has, and to be able to provide for its needs in a natural way. On this occasion, vegetation has been planted in all the lanes of the vineyard; one of these will remain as permanent vegetation cover and the other will be turned over during the spring.

A permanent blanket has been provided by clover and ryegrass, which cover the lanes, looking quite homogeneous. As a temporary cover, legumes have been planted which, together with the sticks that remain after pruning, will be a fantastic natural green fertiliser to, above all, feed nitrogen to the soil.

Stability of the vines

During these cold months, the field team is also raising the upper wires of the trellis vines — about 15 cm — to gain some leaf surface and get a better ratio of vegetation per cluster. In this way, with more new leaves, the plant will photosynthesise more and will be more balanced.

The vines are still too green for their dormancy period to begin; sub-zero temperatures need to be recorded for at least three or four days in a row. However, the field team is now contemplating the winter pruning, in which they will preserve last year’s cane and spur to maintain the flow of sap.
