SUMMER HAS COME TO THE MENADE VINEYARD!

As always, we want to keep you updated on everything that is happening in the vineyard; what we’re currently working on, and what the coming months have in store.

First, let’s recap what spring was like to better understand the conditions we’re starting with. In late March and early April, we experienced some late frosts. Although they slightly affected our vineyard, it recovered without further issues, so we can safely say everything is under control.

Spring was also quite rainy, with gentle showers replenishing the underground water reserves. This means that even if summer is very hot, with above-average temperatures and no precipitation, the vineyard will be able to thrive without any problems.

A couple of weeks ago, flowering ended and fruit set began, marking the crucial moment when flowers turn into fruit. With the clusters now formed, we can start estimating production and calculating yield.

In the coming months, fieldwork is essential, especially given the lingering humidity from the recent torrential rains experienced at the end of June.

Pruning and leaf thinning will help us control the vegetation. Additionally, by keeping the plant well-ventilated, we can prevent fungi and other potential fungal pests that thrive in hot and humid conditions.

These tasks also help us regulate the yield we want to obtain from the plant, as our goal is focussed on producing quality grapes rather than quantity.

See you at harvest!
