Said event, sponsored by Bodegas Menade, is now in its third year and is becoming a major summer event.
The results/verdict were/was decided by the 100 or so stalwart guests who represent a cross-section of friends, restaurateurs and Wine people.
Top Prize went to the culinary delegation sent by the Celtas Cortos (an awesome and very lively Celtic rock outfit from nearby Valladolid, who are dear friends – check them out on http://www.celtascortos.com/) whose ‘Cádiz extension’ dish “Arroz de la República Independiente de los Algodonales”/emblematic ‘Rice Dish from the Independent Cotton Pickers’ Republic) – a tasty black rice dish featuring cuttlefish and prawns was the clear favourite.
Their hard earned 500 euros went to their nominated preference: the admirable ONG CEAIN
Runner-up was Evaristo Triano, important chef at one of the Tragaluz restaurant group in Barcelona – check them out on https://grupotragaluz.com/ – who presented an equally formidable dish entitled “Haz el arroz y no la guerra”/’Make rice not war’ which was most indulgent in its inclusion of tasty baby squid, prawns and clams.
His/their hard earned 500 euros went to arguably the most dedicated and active childrens cancer-dedicated hospital in Europe – Sant Joan de Déu, in Barcelona.
Both, it must be said, deliberated long and hard as to whom they would like to support in this small and worthy way and not only are we proud that they participated in our quite recently established annual event but are most proud that in our all-round very minor way we might be adding a miniscule drop of good into a totally bonkers endless pit of necessity.
European Summer Tour
Summer/early Autumn may be languid but we are always busy and battle on!
Late August therefore finds us in Germany – celebrating in particular the 30th anniversary of our Bremen distributor; whereas in September we’ll be enthusing with a wee tour of Denmark.
